News Update - 12 April 2021
Appointment of new CEO
Sudbury Community House is delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Dixon as the organisation's new Chief Executive Officer.
This will follow the resignation of Virginia Aden who is stepping down as the CEO from the 14th May 2021. Virginia has had a long and decorated career with Sudbury Community House over the past 10+ years. Virginia is credited for leading and transforming the organisation from what was a relatively low base to become a recognised and well-regarded community centre considered a bench mark within the sector. Virginia leaves the centre at a time where we have stabilised following the COVID-19 pandemic and her leadership across this period has been invaluable. From all who have had contact, I am sure everyone wishes Virginia well in any future endeavours. We will be sure to acknowledge and celebrate Virginia’s contribution to Sudbury Community House prior to her leaving.
Prior to taking up this appointment, Mike worked for Whitelion Youth Agency (previously Balga Detached Youth Work Project) as an Agency Manager and of more recent time as the State Manager from June 2004 to March 2021. Mike possesses extensive experience in working with community organisations and community people within Mirrabooka and the surrounding areas and will complement our existing team.
Mike’s other work roles have been in Mental Health Advocacy, where he supported consumers impacted by mental illness, and more recently with the Department of Education, where he has supported students and families facing exclusion from school. Mike has also developed Board experience through his former role as the Chairperson of the Dungeon Youth Centre.
Sudbury Community House Chair, Joe Radici said “Sudbury Community House is delighted to welcome Mike as its new CEO at this time. Mike’s strong career history in the provision of leadership within the community sector is a perfect platform to take the organisation forward from the strong foundations largely established by Virginia Aden. We believe under Mike’s leadership that he will add value to the growing services provided by Sudbury Community House”
Mike said “I am extremely honoured and grateful to be working within the Sudbury Community House team. There is so much I love about working within this local area and I look forward to contributing in ways which bring more people together in a dignified and harmonious manner. I also look forward to supporting our team devise ways in which we can broaden or refine our service offerings to be more responsive to the needs of minority group individuals and ensure that all have a platform for community inclusion”
Mike will officially commence with Sudbury Community House on the 10th May 2021. Prior to this date, Mike will be attending the centre to meet with the team and working with Virginia to ensure a thorough handover process is undertaken. Whilst we are sad to see Virginia depart, I am confident Mike will build on the foundations she has laid, and ensure Sudbury Community House continues to meet the needs of our local community.
